The equipment that backgammon players need
Backgammon is quite a mobile game. You don't have to own expensive equipment in order to play it. The basic backgammon equipment is easy to obtain and many stores that deal with table games hold all sorts of backgammon sets and accessories for you to choose from.
Here is a list of the basic things that you'll need in order to play backgammon:
- A backgammon board or some sort of a layout. The board is divided down by a partition (the "bar") to inner and outer boards. The inner board (the side that is closer to you) is also called the "home". Usually there are arrows that indicate the direction of play on the board itself.
- Pair of regular dice, numbered 1-6. Some players prefer a pair of dice for each player. The dice usually have rounded corners so that they could roll more easily.
- A dice cup, for shaking and casting the dice. Not all players use it, some prefer the old fashioned way i.e. throwing the dice with the hands.
- 30 round stones (checkers) in two different colors, usually black and white. The checkers are usually referred to as "men".
- Doubling cube- a six-faced die, usually bigger than the regular dice, marked with the numbers 2,4,8,16,32,64 on its faces. The doubling cube is used to keep track of the units at stake and to mark the player who last doubled.
